Nato a New York nel 1951, laureatosi nella Pace University
della Grande Mela, iniziò a lavorare per
riviste e quotidiani italiani in veste di
fotoreporter. Sin da teenager dimostrò interesse
per le auto, passione che continua tutt'ora,
tanto da impegnarlo nella restaurazione di una
Porsche 1970. Divenne chief- fotografo della
International Ladies Garment Workers Union, pur
ritenendosi free lance: fotografò per
pubblicazioni europee, come HO2. Nel 1970
Adriano incontrò Teresa Schiavi, di Giulianova,
che sposò nel 1974 e l’anno seguente ebbero un
figlio, Adriano.
Senza interrompere l'attività di free lance fotografo,
effettuò un documentario sulla portaerei "Nimitz",
intervistò il Presidente Carter, attori e
personaggi illustri come Tennesse William e
Muhammed Alì.

Ottobre 2009 - Il pittore Adriano
Manocchia ha appena terminato la mostra
personale alla L. Wicks Fine Art Gallery che ha
coinciso con la stagione delle corse di cavalli
a Saratoga. L’artista americano ha confermato il
suo straordinario talento del “carpe diem” che
deriva dalla sua positiva esperienza di
fotografo professionista. |

Signor Manocchia, è soddisfatto della mostra?
“Questo evento si è rivelato di vero successo a
dispetto del maltempo che ha flagellato il
Nordest, durante l’intera estate. Molti miei
quadri sono stato venduti ancor prima
dell’apertura ufficiale, avvenuta Mercoledì 20
agosto, e Lisa Wicks, proprietaria e Direttrice
della galleria, è stata in grado di assicurare
alcune commissioni. Il ben frequentato
ricevimento d’apertura ha richiamato gli
appassionati d'arte non solo dalla zona, ma
anche dai lontani Westchester e New Jersey.
Abbinata alla mia produzione artistica è stata
la raffinata linea di mobili artigianali
Adirondack creata dall’artista Barney Bellinger" |

Perchè ritiene che l'evento si sia
rivelato particolarmente importante?
"La mostra mi ha dato la grande opportunità
di incontrare nuovi collezionisti, nonché di
rinnovare vecchie conoscenze. Lisa è stata la
padrona di casa ideale per questo evento che ha
attirato l'attenzione degli appassionati delle
corse dei cavalli e al tempo stesso dei
collezionisti d'arte equestre. Il mio nuovo
lavoro ha dimostrato di essere gradito a molti
di loro e sono molto impegnato nella creazione
di nuovi dipinti su questo tema." |

Quale dei suoi dipinti riesce ad
esemplificare la collezione che Lei ha esposto a Saratoga? |

"Early
Morning Visitor" è una delle nuove immagini
equestri che ho presentato alla mostra.
Si tratta di un olio su tavola,
misura 24”x36" incorniciato in
una cornice d’oro molto bella fatta su
misura. È stato ispirato da una visita
mattutina alla stalla di un amico. La
luce era davvero incredibile e in forte
contrasto con i toni caldi dei pannelli
di legno |

della stalla. Gli uccelli volavano dentro e
fuori e
spesso si
posavano sulla mangiatoia per afferrare un pezzo
di paglia con cui costruire i loro nidi. Credo
che l'aggiunta di una rondine al quadro di
natura morta gli abbia dato veramente un'altra
dimensione". |

E
adesso? Vale a dire, su quali soggetti sta
lavorando? |
|
"Ho iniziato a lavorare su alcune nuove immagini
dal mio recente viaggio in Yellowstone. Sono
talmente entusiasta di questi nuovi dipinti che
non vedo l’ora di mostrarne i risultati. Spero
che li troverete eccitanti come li sento io nel
crearli". |

Italo-american painter
held a successful one-man show at Saratoga |

Journalist
Lino's son, he married "giuliese" Teresa Schiavi, a
very active manager and public relation woman |
Adriano Manocchia was born in New York in 1951.
After graduating from Pace University in the Big
Apple, he started working for Italian magazines
and newspapers as a photojournalist. Even as a
teenager, he was interested in cars, a passion
that still continues today, so much so that he’s
in the process of restoring a 1970 Porsche. He became chief-photographer of the
International Ladies Garment Workers Union,
while freelancing as a photographer for European
publications, such as HO2.
In 1970 Adriano met Teresa Schiavi, from
Giulianova, and they married in
1974.
The following year they had a son also named
Adriano.
To the activity of free-lance photographer he
started also shooting film and made a
documentary on the aircraft carrier "Nimitz",
interviewed President Carter, and many actors
and famous people such as Tennessee Williams and
Mohammed Alì. |

Painter Adriano Manocchia has just held a
one-man show at L. Wicks Fine Art Gallery, which
coincided with the Saratoga horse racing season.

Mister Manocchia, are you gratified by this art
show?
”This event proved to be very successful in
spite of the dismal weather that has plagued the
Northeast throughout summer. Several of my
paintings were sold even before the official
opening on Thursday August 20th 2009, and Lisa
Wicks, owner and gallery Director, was also able
to secure some commissions. The well-attended
opening reception brought art lovers not only
from the
area, but as far away as Westchester and New
Jersey. Pairing my artwork was the exquisite
line of hand-crafted Adirondack furniture
created by artist Barney Bellinger" |

Why do you feel that this show's success was
particularly important?"This
show gave me the great opportunity of meeting new
collectors as well as renewing old acquaintances. Lisa was
the perfect host to this event, which has attracted the
attention of the horse racing enthusiasts and equestrian art
collectors alike. My new work has proved to be a favourite
with many of them and I'm hard at work creating new
paintings on this subject". |
Which of your paintings is able to exemplify the
collection you showed at Saratoga?
"Early Morning Visitor" is one of the new
equestrian images I unveiled at the show. It is
an oil on panel measuring 24"x36" framed in a
very handsome custom-made gold frame. It was
inspired by an early morning visit to the barn
of a friend. The light was just incredible and
in strong contrast with the warm hues of the
stable's wood panels. Birds were flying in and
out and often landed on the feeder where they
would grab a piece of straw to build their
nests. I feel that adding a barn swallow to the
still life painting just gave it another
dimension." |
And now? That’s to say, what subjects are you
working on?
"I started working on some new images from my
recent trip to Yellowstone. I'm so excited about
these new paintings that I cannot wait to show
you the results. I hope you'll find them as
exciting
as I feel creating them". |
